About Us & Benefits of Membership

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Horticultural Society is one of the

oldest horticultural societies in Ontario.

We are a volunteer-run, charity organization. Our mission is to encourage the continual joy of learning about gardening. We welcome everyone interested in gardening, horticulture, and environmental stewardship. We maintain over 250 registered members..

Please join us!  We look forward to meeting you!

  • Monthly Meetings - The Society hosts monthly meetings to educate members on a variety of horticultural topics and gardening techniques through speakers, generally experts in the field. Meetings take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month, January to May and September to November.  Our meetings usually take place at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre. See our past speakers and topics.

  • Gardening Classes with Joanne Young Spring Series 2025 We are delighted to announce that the Niagara-on-the-Lake Horticultural Society will host a series of Saturday morning gardening classes, available to our members and the public. They will be facilitated by Joanne Young starting on March 1, 2025 and they will run for 12 weeks to May 31st.  (We will skip Easter weekend and our May 10th Plant Sale). Joanne is very well known in the region as Niagara-on-the-Lake's Garden Coach. With more than 30 years of gardening experience, she brings her great humour and teaching skills to the classroom making learning even the most complex garden techniques easier to understand and fun to learn.

  • Annual Plant Sale - An annual outdoor plant sale May 10, 2025 with many of the plants donated from our members' gardens.

  • Annual Gardener's Garden Tour - The Society's renowned signature event, now in its 30th year, takes place July 12, 2025 and is open to the broader community to tour a variety of beautiful, private gardens in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Our tour attracts upwards of 1,000 visitors to town on the day of the tour.

  • Special Projects - The Society works with the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and other groups to help support and create pollinator gardens, and community vegetable gardens, provide scholarships, and encourage respect for the environment.

  • Flowers for Seniors - During the winter holiday season, flower arrangements are created by our volunteers and delivered to seniors.

  • Field Trips - When appropriate the Executive Board may organize a  horticulturally inspired field trip for our members.

  • Volunteer Opportunities - We have many volunteer opportunities, including serving on the board, chairing an event, or helping with gardening projects. Meet our Board of Directors.

  • Newsletters - We publish regular newsletters to keep members informed and connected.
